- Objective: To answer my essential question: What is the most successful way to encourage young women in abusive relationships to leave their abuser?, in the most effective way possible. Presenting this information on a basic level so my audience will be able to grasp this social issue and possibly connect with the information at hand.
- Procedure:
- Greet the class and introduce my topic along with the essential question
- Ask a show of hands of who knows what domestic violence is
- Pick on a couple of people who may know and ask for their definition
- Give a definition of what I believe domestic abuse is based on research
- Present an overview to the class about things I will generally be covering in my 20-minute presentation
- Show the three answers I have come up with for my essential question
- Explain why I choose my first answer with facts
- Discuss my second answer with supporting statistics and facts
- Present my third answer to the class that will lead into my class activity
- Read off groups of 1-5 or 6 and ask them to sit in certain parts of the room
- Give the assignment of presenting a short play, no longer than 1 minute on how an abusive relationship can generally look and afterwards explain why this is abusive. They will have 5 minutes to prepare.
- Tell the class about my service learning so far and what kind of things I have experienced
- Give my three meaningful sources and explain why
- Conclude my presentation with a summary
- Congratulate everyone on there play and thank them for listening
- Check for understanding: I will check for understanding from my class activity. Once they present their plays, I will be able to see if they really grasped the information or not. I can clarify certain things they did not grasp after each play and explain aspects about domestic abuse they may have misrepresented.
- Resources/Materials:
- Laptop
- Projector
- Light
- Projector Screen
- Space for students to present play
Seems like you've really thought this through. You might want to concentrate on one answer for this presentation. Make sure your directions/expectations are very clear for the plays. These can backfire if the boundaries aren't clear. They also tend to be time consuming. Make sure to review the component contract.
