20-Minute Presentation Rough Draft

  • Objective: To answer my essential question: What is the most successful way to encourage young women in abusive relationships to leave their abuser?, in the most effective way possible. Presenting this information on a basic level so my audience will be able to grasp this social issue and possibly connect with the information at hand.
  • Procedure:
    1. Greet the class and introduce my topic along with the essential question
    2. Ask a show of hands of who knows what domestic violence is
    3. Pick on a couple of people who may know and ask for their definition
    4. Give a definition of what I believe domestic abuse is based on research
    5. Present an overview to the class about things I will generally be covering in my 20-minute presentation
    6. Show the three answers I have come up with for my essential question
    7. Explain why I choose my first answer with facts
    8. Discuss my second answer with supporting statistics and facts
    9. Present my third answer to the class that will lead into my class activity
    10.  Read off groups of 1-5 or 6 and ask them to sit in certain parts of the room
    11.  Give the assignment of presenting a short play, no longer than 1 minute on how an abusive relationship can generally look and afterwards explain why this is abusive. They will have 5 minutes to prepare.
    12.  Tell the class about my service learning so far and what kind of things I have experienced
    13.  Give my three meaningful sources and explain why
    14.  Conclude my presentation with a summary
    15.  Congratulate everyone on there play and thank them for listening
  • Check for understanding: I will check for understanding from my class activity. Once they present their plays, I will be able to see if they really grasped the information or not. I can clarify certain things they did not grasp after each play and explain aspects about domestic abuse they may have misrepresented.

    1 comment:

    1. Seems like you've really thought this through. You might want to concentrate on one answer for this presentation. Make sure your directions/expectations are very clear for the plays. These can backfire if the boundaries aren't clear. They also tend to be time consuming. Make sure to review the component contract.
