b) I completed 33 full hours of service learning with my organization by assisting, file keeping, sit-ins on meetings, and supervising.
Interpretive
The significant parts of my component that really helped better evolve my senior project was being able to sit-in on meetings because it allowed me to really see inside the head of a battered woman, due to personal questions. This really helps me form my project because I learn some things the women lacked or eventually received when it came to leaving their abusive relationship. My independent component demonstrates 30 hours of work by having a set schedule and increase in knowledge.
Applied
My independent component helped me answer my essential question by allowing me to have direct contact with battered women and being able to experience the struggles these women go through. By being part of this environment, I can better shape my essential question answers based on, not only research but by personal stories that tell me what may encourage a woman to leave their abusive relationship. When I conduct or am able to sit in on assessments, I can easily retain this information and later back-up my understanding with research. For example, if I ask a client "what was your reasoning to continue the relationship?" and they respond, "I didn't realize what he was doing was wrong" then I can assume they were never educated on the topic and based on my research this assumption can be supported with facts.
